Extreme Perl
Extreme Perl is a book about Extreme Programming using the programming language Perl. This site contains the entire book. Please send me your suggestions, questions, etc. to comments at extremeperl.org. You may also want to join the Extreme Perl Group at Yahoo! Groups to discuss Extreme Programming with Perl.
Beginning Perl
Perl is a well-established programming language that has been developed through the time and effort of countless free software programmers into an immensely powerful tool that can be used on pratically every operating system in the world. Perl started out as the 'Swiss army knife' of computer languages and was used primarily by system administrators, but over time it's grown into an immensely robust language used by web-developers and programmers worldwide. It's also a great way to learn programming techniques and develop your own style of coding.

Programming:Perl
Perl is a programming language designed by Larry Wall, known today for its strong community and module archive. It was originally developed to process text and produce reports. As a result, a backronym has been formed from its name: Practical Extraction and Report Language. It makes extensive use of significant punctuation, and highly chaotic-looking code has been written in it. This has resulted in a less complimentary backronym (which is still embraced by Perl users): Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister (said to be a quote from the language designer himself).

Picking Up Perl
This book has been created for a number of reasons. The primary reason is to provide a freely redistributable tutorial for the Perl language. In writing this freely redistributable tutorial it is our hope that the largest number of people can have access to it and share it.
In the Perl community we have discovered ways to save time by writing Perl programs that make our jobs and lives easier. Surely Perl is not a panacea but it has certainly made our lives a little bit better. It is hoped that you can use Perl to make your jobs and lives easier too.
