IPv6 in Practice: A Unixer's Guide to the Next Generation Internet Book
Publisher: Springer Berlin Heidelberg | ISBN: 3642063888 | edition 2009 | PDF | 393 pages | 11,2 mb
Handling IPv6 for the first time is a challenging task even for the experienced system administrator. New concepts and mechanisms make it necessary to rethink well-established methods of the IPv4 protocol.
This book is a practical guide to IPv6 addressing Unix and network administrators with experience in TCP/IP(v4) but not necessarily any IPv6 knowledge. It focuses on reliable and efficient operation of IPv6 implementations available today rather than on protocol specifications. Consequently, it covers the essential concepts - using instructive and thoroughly tested examples - on how to configure, to administrate, and to debug IPv6 setups. These foundations are complemented by discussions of best practices and strategic considerations aimed at overall efficiency, reliability, maintainability, and interoperation.

Hardening Cisco Routers Book
Publisher: O'Reilly Media | ISBN: 0596001665 | edition 2002 | PDF | 191 pages | 12,5 mb
To harden a router is to render it more heavily defended and more difficult to attack. Because routers (by definition) serve as points of entry into your network, it makes sense to devote extra effort to their security. Hardening Cisco Routers shows how to make adjustments to the configurations of routers from Cisco Systems to improve their resistance to attack, particularly external attack. This is essentially a book of specialized Internetwork Operating System (IOS) commands, as well as explanations of their behavior. It'll appeal to the router administrator--employed either by an organization's internal network staff, an outside consultancy, or a service provider--who wants to know which IOS commands he or she should add to routers' configuration files to tighten their security without a lot of hassle.

Oracle SQL Tuning Pocket Reference Book
Publisher: O'Reilly Media, Inc.; 1st edition | 2001-11-15 | 90 Pages | ISBN: 0596002688 | PDF | 1.6 MB
One of the most important challenges faced by Oracle database administrators and Oracle developers is the need to tune SQL statements so that they execute efficiently. In this book, Mark Gurry shares his in-depth knowledge of Oracle's SQL statement optimizers. Mark's knowledge is the result of many hard-fought tuning battles during his many years of providing Oracle tuning services to clients. Mark provides insights into the workings of the rule-based optimizer that go well beyond what the rules tell you. Mark also provides solutions to many common problems that occur with both the rule-based and cost-based optimizers. In addition to the specific problem/solution scenarios for the optimizers, Mark provides a number of handy SQL tuning tips. He discusses the various optimizer hints, telling you when they can be used to good effect. Finally, Mark discusses the use of the DBMS_STATS package to manage database statistics, and the use of outlines to specify execution plans for SQL statements in third-party applications that you can't otherwise modify.
About the Author
As a database administrator on a financial IMS project about eight years ago, Mark Gurry was asked to investigate his company's database direction for the next five years. The number of users was up to 950, the cost of maintaining the mainframes was huge, and he'd heard about relational databases and downsizing. After much investigation, he chose Oracle, and has stuck with the system ever since. He has worked as Manager of Computing and Network Services, senior database administrator, senior Oracle technical support, and other jobs. He now has a small consulting company called New Age Consultants. Mark has worked for many large organizations and is currently working for Telecom Australia, the largest computer site in Australia and one of the largest in the world. He has also spoken on tuning at Oracle user group meetings and has given internal tuning courses at several of his larger client sites. He has been a senior team member on award-winning systems that have been developed using Oracle.

System operators are responsible for maintaining the integrity and availability of the computer systems in a company's data center. An operator's responsibilities can span a wide range of tasks. Most spend the majority of their time troubleshooting and resolving problems reported by users. Other primary tasks are system health monitoring, performance monitoring, and backing up the system. Periodically, the operator is asked to perform additional tasks such as upgrading the operating system and applications, restoring files, installing patches, or performing system maintenance. It is not unusual for an operator to have more than 100 systems to maintain in the environment.
